Marco Maraviglia: the photographer who stiches together fragments of the city to create a new world of his own. Marco Maraviglia is a photographer in Naples, who works in travel publishing.Since 2000, he started to make photos for his own ‘Impossible Naples’ project. These image are derived from his photographic archive, ranging from surreal and metaphysical. Dubbed by Marco as “inexistences” or “Contemporary Visionary”, these compositions are reminiscent to some living artists who work in architectural de-contextualization field, such as Giorgio Lo Cascio, Victor E. Tarres, Nicolò Quirico, Franco Donaggio to name a few. Passionate of M. C. Escher, De Chirico, Magritte, Piranesi and other creative visionary artist’s work, Marco’s niche production includes works made with great precision, dealing with well defined themes and concepts, some of which have social implications. Recently, Marco successfully exhibited his work at the PAN - Palazzo delle Arti di Napoli - where the audience had to guess and piece together the parts of Naples depicted in the photomontages. The public was motivated to participate thanks to a grand prize, which was awarded to those who gave the most correct answers and consisted of a work of choice among those exhibited. Metamorfosi Reloaded, the longest panorama of Naples in the world, is the flagship of the Impossible Naples Project series and it had a ten-year preparation period. It culminated in a participatory gathering during which artists, graphic designers, photographers and simple fans of Naples suggested some modifications to improve it. Marco is currently working on some participatory art projects aimed to involve artists and companies interested in supporting and developing cultural dynamics to improve the quality of life.
