Metamorfosi Reloaded is the longest panorama of Naples in the world.
Surreal and imagined, Metamorfosi Reloaded is an abstract composition of 19 subjects of Naples derived from my photographic archive.
Work on the project commenced in 2005. In 2007, the first iteration was used to make an online table calendar, which could be unloaded and printed in Creative Commons.
The next version of the piece was unveiled on May 8th, 2015 at La Maison du Tango. The 6-meter-long draft was printed and displayed before photographers, artists, graphic designers, and Naples lovers, all of which had the power to intervene and provide input. By the end of the day, the panorama was covered with suggestions and corrections. It was a happening where the audience had fun guessing and piecing together the parts of Naples depicted in the photomontage.
It was a moment of participatory art. The work-share session aimed to use the public’s suggestions to assist in the final representation of Metamorfosi Reloaded, which was presented at a smaller scale (265x20 cm) on February 11th, 2016 at Timelight.
Only thirty copies were printed of Metamorfosi Reloaded in the 265 x 20 cm format. Only one full scale copy, over 8 meters in length, will be shown here in the hall.
Metamorfosi Reloaded is the flagship of the Impossible Naples Project and is composed of a series of surreal, metaphysical, and sometimes M. C. Escher-inspired images of Naples. These photos aim to stimulate the observer and to recognize the different parts of Naples through a deeper perception of the city.
